Denton South has an above average employment problem, where over 60% of 16 to 24 year olds are not in employment, education or training. Benchmark wanted to offer traditional construction training within the large social housing estate.
Training is delivered by the Construction team at Tameside College and it is envisage over 60% of the 24 youths attending will be found apprenticeships and ultimately employment.
Gary Pyatt a 20 year old has been out of work for over 18 months was delighted with the taster sessions and wants to continue learning about bricklaying. Gary said that “ getting up at 8.00am in the morning and having somewhere to go and a purpose back in his life felt fantastic. The discipline of the working day makes the time pass so quickly. He said” I have learnt loads this week, and working as a team with other members has been great, my CV will now look better when I’m seeking a job in the future, all thanks to Benchmark.
